Wanneer we intense emoties zoals angst, verdriet of woede ervaren, activeert ons lichaam het stresssysteem, ook wel bekend als de vecht-of-vluchtrespons. Dit is een natuurlijke reactie die ons helpt te overleven in gevaarlijke situaties.<\/p><p>Maar als deze emoties niet volledig worden verwerkt \u2014 bijvoorbeeld door langdurige stress, traumatische gebeurtenissen of het onderdrukken van gevoelens \u2014 kunnen ze in het lichaam vast blijven zitten. Dit kan zich uiten als:<\/p><ul data-spread=\"false\"><li><p>Chronische spierspanning (bijvoorbeeld in de nek, schouders of onderrug)<\/p><\/li><li><p>Verhoogde hartslag of ademhalingsproblemen<\/p><\/li><li><p>Vermoeidheid en energieverlies<\/p><\/li><li><p>Onverklaarbare lichamelijke pijnen<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p>Wetenschappelijk onderzoek ondersteunt deze verbinding tussen lichaam en geest. Studies tonen aan dat stress en trauma\u2019s de hersenen en het zenuwstelsel zodanig kunnen veranderen dat het lichaam in een constante staat van alertheid blijft. Emoties die niet worden verwerkt, kunnen zich letterlijk opslaan in het lichaam.
