With this test you can have the function of the adrenal glands measured.

The following symptoms are caused by a decreased condition of the adrenal glands:

  • Fatigue
  • Exhaustion
  • Possibly also complaints such as hypoglycemia
  • Blood pressure problems,
  • Muscle weakness,
  • Low body temperature
  • Disturbed moisture balance.

The saliva test is a simple, reliable test that you can easily perform at home. You take your saliva at a number of times a day and put it in a dedicated tube. With this research cortisol and DHEA are determined.

Cortisol is produced by the adrenal cortex. It has extensive effects on various organs in the body: it has an anti-inflammatory effect, it maintains blood sugar levels, blood pressure and muscle strength and helps to balance the salt and water balance.

In a healthy person, we see a peak time of cortisol production in the morning. It sends a signal to all organs - time to wake up. Over the course of the day, the amount of cortisol will slowly decrease. You do not need cortisol to go to bed, instead of cortisol comes a sleep hormone melatonin. They alternate and we call that a Circadian rhythm.

Cortisol production is increased during stress. With prolonged stress, the adrenal glands can no longer maintain this high production, which decreases the cortisol production. Changes in the measured amount of cortisol thus indicate the body's response to stress.
